error launching Jucy on Mac - can't find prefs to trash
April 07, 2011 02:56AM
I'm running Jucy 0.85 on my Mac Snow Leopard. It worked fine for the first couple of days, then I started up without my external drive mounted, and the prefs seem to have gotten corrupted - now the download folder cannot be specified, and I get an error as well when launching the app.

I've trashed the entire app folder and re-installed, but the problems persist. Seems that the pref file is still on my Mac but I cannot locate it.

There is another thread here that Quicksilver wrote:
"then its ~/.UC/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.runtime/.settings where ~ = your homedirectory"

but I still cannot locate any pref file outside of the Jucy application folder.

Please help!

Bob

What error do you get?

As soon as Jucy launches a series of duplicate error codes open up in the system log, it reads:

FATAL Pl.Java Line:373 could not create temp dir: /Volumes/(my drive path)

I can click OK to close out the error window.

But my drive path is then not available. When I go to the 'downloads' preference another error is shown: The currently displayed page contains invalid values. If I click OK on this, then the downloads page is blank.

Ok simplest solution should then be to change the prefs by hand. (or delete them)

Does the directory "~/.UC/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.runtime/.settings" not exist? Or do you have problems getting there?

Be aware directories are hidden and may therefore not be shown everywhere.

Quicksilver -
the only file that matches the one you describe is in the Jucy application folder. I have already trashed the entire application folder and re-installed it from scratch. But the problem persists.

I cannot find the actual preferences file in order to trash it. It must be somewhere on my system drive. On the Mac this would usually be in on of these folders:

root/Library/Preferences
root/Library/Application Support

OR

root/Users/my_username/Library/Preferences
root/Users/my_username/Library/Application Support

Can you tell me what the preferences file should be named?

Thanks,
Bob

The full path of the file should be:

"/home/<username>/.UC/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.runtime/.settings/eu.jucy.prefs"

the values of "DownloadDirectory" and "TempDownloadDirectory" should be corrected.

If you just delete them jucy will take a default value which should also be fine.

Heinrich - Thank you, by unhiding my invisible files I was able to find this path. I trashed the prefs, and now everything is fine. smileys with beer

I seem to have created the same problem out of curiosity - and reinstalling Jucy does not over-write old prefs (any of them) which are nowhere to be found. Where did you end up locating them? thanks!
